Coconuts are opened by "cracking" them. Kicking them around the house is one way to try and crack a coconut. However, probably not the best way. There is coconut milk on the inside. What you want to do is open a small hole (we used to use a hammer and punch, your dad will know what those are) to open two holes, one to pour from and one to let the coconut insides breath, and then dump the juice out. Then, with the same hammer, on a hard, safe, surface, you can use the hammer to break the hard outer shell. You can also use a saw to cut it if you want clean outside halves.
